Before we were the Bangers, we were a small group of just five or six people who got together every now and then to throw the ball around, take some swings, and reconnect with the game we love. As Milwaukee Sandlot has grown into more than just our single team, these outings have become more organized, consistent, and popular among our group of ballplayers. As a result, we now host “open play” sessions on a weekly, sometimes twice-weekly, basis. 

Inspired by the nostalgia and friendly, carefree energy of a backyard ballgame, open play brings our community of ballplayers together. Most open play outings turn into pickup games consisting of mashup teams created from whoever shows up, but they can also be informal practices or batting practice sessions. Regardless of what the day becomes, open play gives our players the opportunity to meet new people, polish their skills, and enjoy a few hours on the diamond with good people who love the game.

We recruit new players directly from open play sessions, and all “free agents” within our Milwaukee Sandlot group are required to attend a few of these outings before they can join a team. If you’re interested in playing, make sure you come out!

There’s no specific baseball background or experience required to play. All we’re looking for are good people who consistently participate, show a willingness to improve their game, make positive contributions to our club, and demonstrate a strong desire to help our community grow.
